Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume said on Fox News Wednesday that President Donald Trump is facing widespread disapproval across nearly every major issue, just 100 days into his second term.
A poll says Americans are growing dissatisfied with Trump’s economic performance as his sweeping tariffs and trade moves unsettle global markets. During an appearance on “Special Report with Bret Baier,” Hume weighed in on Trump’s approval rating near the 100-day mark of his second term.
“There’s a list of issues that we ask people what they felt about, and the president is underwater in all but one, and that one is the border, where he’s got high approval on that. The majority approval is above water,” Hume told Baier.
While Trump’s overall approval rating stands at 44%, close to where he stood at the same point in his first term, Hume said that ongoing challenges are weighing down public perception.

“Everything else, including immigration, which, for some reason, was separated from the border in this particular poll, he’s a little bit under water on immigration. He’s way down right at the moment on the economy and even way down further on tariffs, which are, of course, part of that,” Hume said. “So, you know, foreign policy rating isn’t good and so on. My thought about this is this is not really unexpected, in my view, Bret. His overall approval rating, as you noted earlier, is 44%. So much of what he’s undertaken remains a work in progress, and, you know, they haven’t got any trade deals yet. The tariffs are out there, and people are worried about them and don’t like them. ”
Still, Hume suggested that the administration has room to rebound. If Trump can secure results on trade, resolve foreign conflicts and stabilize the economy then Hume believes those approval numbers could shift in his favor. “We don’t know how that’s going to play out. We don’t know how the foreign policy endeavors are going to pan out. We don’t have peace between Ukraine and Russia, which he promised. So there’s a lot of work to be completed, which, if done successfully, I think would dramatically elevate his current approval rating,” Hume added.
Americans remain skeptical of Trump’s economic agenda so far, but his overall approval rating stands at roughly 42%, according to Reuters. That figure surpasses former President Joe Biden’s ratings for most of his term, and 45% of respondents said they support Trump’s immigration policies.
Despite recent economic turmoil, Republicans continue to back Trump, with 81% expressing approval of his economic agenda, Reuters reported. In contrast, only 5% of Democrats and 28% of independents or unaffiliated voters said they support his economic policies.
As part of his push to reshape the global trade system, Trump imposed steep tariffs—reaching 145% on Chinese imports. On Tuesday, however, he indicated that those tariffs will likely be scaled back significantly in the near future.
