Bret Baier reports surprising results on Trump’s approval from Fox News poll

President Donald Trump’s supporters are pushing back hard on a new Fox News poll that says the president is lagging behind his predecessors.

Announced on Wednesday by Fox News host Bret Baier, the poll shows that President Trump’s 100-day job approval rating is lower than his four most recent predecessors, including himself from his first term in office.

“If you look at our new Fox News poll at 100 days, job approval compared to other presidents, there you see the president at 44 percent, and you see his first term at 45  at this mark the 100 day mark,” Baier reported.

During a subsequent discussion, fellow Fox News contributor Brit Hume added that Trump is also underwater on almost every issue.

“There’s a list of issues that we asked people what they felt about, and the president is underwater in all but one, and that one is the border, where he’s got high approval on that,” he said.

“Everything else, including immigration, which for some reason was separated from the border in this particular poll, a little bit underwater on immigration. He’s way down right at the moment on the economy and even way down further on tariffs, which are of course part of that,” he added.

To Hume’s credit, he continued by offering a reasonable explanation for why Trump’s poll numbers are currently down.

“My thought about this is this is not really unexpected in my view,” he began. “His overall approval rating … is 44 percent, so much of what he’s undertaken remains a work in progress, and you know they haven’t got any trade deals yet. The tariffs are out there and people are worried about them and don’t like them. We don’t know how that’s going to play out.”

“We don’t know how the foreign policy endeavors are going to pan out. We don’t have peace between Ukraine and Russia, which he promised. So there’s a lot of work to be completed, which if done successfully, I think would dramatically elevate his current approval rate,” he added.

He was right. There’s still a LOT of work to be completed, including the ironing out of the ongoing tariff war, the passing of a giant tax bill, more deregulation, etc.

However, Trump supporters believe there are additional reasons for his declining poll numbers, including the media’s notorious left-wing bias.

Conservative commentator Bill Mitchell noted for instance that Trump is polling poorly on inflation, even though inflation is currently down.

“Here’s the effect the lying media has on public perceptions. Inflation is down since Trump took office. Gas is down. The price of eggs is down. And yet in a new Fox News poll Trump’s lowest ratings we’re on inflation!” he wrote in a tweet late Wednesday.

“Now why would that be? Because for weeks now the media has been telling everyone that Trump’s tariffs will cause inflation. But they haven’t caused inflation, prices are falling. And yet people have been trained to believe that inflation is going up because of tariffs,” he added.

He wasn’t alone in his pushback.
