On Friday, Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested by the FBI for allegedly helping an illegal alien avoid apprehension inside her courthouse.
The arrest occurred hours before CNN’s “NewsNight with Abby Phillip” aired live from Washington, D.C., featuring a panel discussion that highlighted growing tensions over illegal immigration and law enforcement.

During the program, CNN contributor Scott Jennings previewed the panel’s focus, which included discussion of Dugan’s arrest and the broader issue of illegal immigration.
The conversation opened with host Abby Phillip calling the situation “tricky,” while Jim Trusty, former attorney for President Donald Trump, described Dugan’s actions as “an embarrassment” and said she had “absolutely no judgment” when she allegedly directed ICE agents away from the courthouse.
Gene Rossi, a former federal prosecutor, added that Dugan’s behavior “shows that she was willfully trying to hide that defendant from being arrested,” noting that it “bothers me a lot.”

Rossi, however, criticized the Trump administration for “making a spectacle” of the case.
Jennings responded by defending the public attention, arguing, “Why wouldn’t you want to make a spectacle of it?”
He continued, “The spectacle is important because a message has to be sent to everybody else, we are not going to put up— you’ve been elected by people to uphold the law.”
As the discussion continued, Rossi claimed that Attorney General Pam Bondi’s handling of the case did not “enhance the rule of law,” despite exposing concerning behavior by Dugan and other judges.
Other panelists, including CNN’s Xochitl Hinojosa, shifted the conversation to claims that Trump’s administration engaged in a pattern of “attacking judges,” a view Phillip agreed with during the broadcast.
Jennings reiterated the importance of addressing illegal immigration.
“The president and the Justice Department and his people have to worry about the impact of illegal immigration on the country because nobody’s been worried about that for years,” he said, citing the open border policies of the Biden-Harris administration.
He emphasized that controlling illegal immigration remains one of President Trump’s major priorities and is strongly supported by the American people.
Jennings noted that while immigration has dipped slightly as a polling issue after record-high crossings in December 2023, Trump’s immigration agenda remains popular.
During a segment addressing polling, Hinojosa referenced a controversial case involving Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an illegal alien referred to by media outlets as a “Maryland man.”
She claimed that the issue hurt Trump politically.
Jennings pushed back, stating, “Come on. He is an El Salvadorian citizen. He is not a Maryland man. He is an illegal immigrant living in this country illegally for 14 years.”
Jennings also addressed the media narrative downplaying Garcia’s background, defending President Trump’s earlier statements and citing Department of Justice documents linking Garcia to MS-13 gang activity and human trafficking.
Phillip questioned whether Americans were “misled” about Trump’s immigration policies, to which Jennings responded, “We have lied our rear ends off about this case. He is an El Salvador illegal immigrant.”
We have to stop LYING to the American public.
No matter how many times the lie is repeated, Albrego Garcia is not a “Maryland man.” He’s not a “mind-mannered father.”

Further details have since emerged confirming Garcia’s illegal status, his connections to human smuggling operations, and his use of a vehicle registered to a known human trafficker to transport other illegal aliens.
In the final moments of the segment, Jennings confronted criticisms of Trump’s stance toward judicial rulings on immigration.
“Let me tell you what offends me. Is that there are people and one political party in this country dedicated to reimporting illegal aliens, hand over fists, and it is outrageous,” Jennings said before the show went to a commercial break.
Thanks to President Trump’s policies, illegal immigration has sharply declined, demonstrating that restoring border security did not require new laws—only new leadership.
