Greg Jarrett says Wisconsin judge has ‘no viable defense’ against charges for aiding illegal immigrant

Daily Caller News Foundation

Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett said Monday a Wisconsin judge who was arrested after allegedly helping an illegal immigrant evade United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents would face great difficulty mounting a defense due to multiple witnesses to her conduct.

FBI agents arrested Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan Friday on obstruction charges after she allegedly misdirected ICE agents seeking to arrest an illegal immigrant who had a hearing before her April 18 before escorting the illegal immigrant out through a back door. Jarrett said that the multiple witnesses to Dugan’s actions in the incident would “incriminate” her at trial.

“The protesters were marching and chanting in their own liberal echo chamber. Their words tend to bounce off the bubble they live in. I’m not sure it affects anybody else and I suspect these are the same people who, in the past, screamed that a president is not above the law, meaning Donald Trump, but apparently, they now think that judges are above the law,” Jarrett told “Fox and Friends” co-host Lawrence Jones. “Some of the placards hailed Judge Hannah Dugan as a hero. Well, I’ve got news for them, there is nothing heroic about breaking the law.”

“She’s charged with obstruction and concealment, aiding and abetting an illegal alien escape arrest outside a nonpublic door out on to the street where he sprints and a chase ensued and you know, that risked harm to citizens and law enforcement,” Jarrett continued. “Fortunately, nobody was injured. The law is here is very plain and clear. There are scores of witnesses who incriminate the judge and frankly, I don’t see any viable defense. But of course, she is presumed innocent and will have her day in court, Lawrence.”

Democratic Mayor Cavalier Johnson of Milwaukee accused President Donald Trump of making Milwaukee “less safe” after the arrest of Dugan. Jarrett said those protesting Dugan’s arrest missed the point, but also referenced New Mexico Judge Jose “Joel” Cano, who was arrested by ICE Thursday after a member of the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua (TdA) was taken into custody while residing on their property.

“I think they’re oblivious and obtuse. You know, those protesters, they just don’t get it and neither do judges, Lawrence. They tend to delude themselves into thinking that their lofty positions somehow absolves or insulates them,” Jarrett said. “It doesn’t. That’s a mistaken belief. Like everybody else, judges have to follow the law. They are sworn to uphold the law, but there is a trend here that you probably noticed. Sanctuary cities have now morphed into rogue sanctuary judges. These sanctuary policies, embolden, encourage judges to do the kinds of things that Judge Hannah has done and the judge in New Mexico as well. And, you know, they do this at their own peril, Lawrence.”
