Brit Hume warned Democrats on Fox News Monday against making immigration a central campaign issue, saying President Donald Trump is clearly succeeding where former President Joe Biden struggled.
During an appearance on “Special Report with Bret Baier,” Hume discussed Trump’s first 100 days in office. Hume said he was confused why Democrats keep attacking Trump on an issue in which he’s “clearly succeeding.”
“If the Democrats were smart, they’d wait and see which ones he’s able to catch and which ones he’s able to succeed on and which ones he isn’t. That process, because there’s so many of them, is bound to have some failures, because there always are. But to attack him on an issue in which he’s clearly succeeding, I don’t quite understand.”
Democratic Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker blasted his own party Sunday, accusing Democrats of being too weak against Republicans and wrongly blaming 2024 losses on issues like immigration and transgender rights. Hume described the contrast between Trump’s border policies and Biden’s.

“We need to secure our border. We need to keep and attract hard-working, tax-paying, law-abiding people. And give them a path to citizenship. It’s interesting he chooses that. And that’s what President Biden said. We can only do so much,” Hume said. “We need Congress to act. And yet you look at these numbers on the southwest border, Bret. It’s night and day. I don’t think I was picking issues for the Democrats to try to come back at Trump on.”
Beyond immigration, Hume said Biden’s broader record remains shaky, whereas Trump succeeded.
“I’d pick immigration. He succeeded on immigration, at least in terms of the border, which you heard the governor mention. So, look, the president is in some difficulty on a lot of issues. And partly for this reason, Brett. He was narrowly elected, convincingly, to be sure, decisively, but narrowly,” Hume said. “And he made a lot of promises, and he claimed a big mandate. There’s always a temptation on the part of new incoming presidents to overread their mandates. Biden certainly did. He thought he was going to be the new FDR.”
Hume pointed to Biden’s unfulfilled promises on major foreign policy fronts, including ending the war in Ukraine and containing Iran’s nuclear ambitions. (RELATED: Brit Hume Says Trump’s First 100 Days In Polls Are ‘Underwater In All But One’ Issue)
“This president has undertaken a lot of things. Peace in the world. He promised to end the war in Ukraine almost immediately. He’s still struggling to find traction on that, although he certainly worked hard on it, no doubt about that,” Hume said. “And the situation in the Middle East remains unresolved. We don’t know yet what we’re going to be able to do about Iran and the prospect of it getting a bomb and all that. So as you suggested earlier, Bret, there are a lot of things up in the air.”
Democrats are struggling with sinking approval ratings and internal divisions ahead of the 2026 midterms.
