‘This is a hostile and political act’

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed Amazon’s plan to display tariff fees, pointing out the company had little to say about Biden-era inflation.

The online shopping company is reportedly preparing to add a display that shows how much of the final purchase price is attributed to President Donald Trump’s tariffs. Leavitt slammed the move as “hostile and political” while noting that Amazon didn’t do the same thing when inflation spiked under former President Joe Biden.

Watch:

“I just got off the phone with the president about Amazon’s announcement. This is a hostile and political act by Amazon! Why didn’t Amazon do this when the Biden administration hiked inflation to the highest level in 40 years?” she asked.

She went on to point to a Reuters report from about four years ago indicating that the Jeff Bezos-owned company partnered up with a “China propaganda arm.”

“It’s not a surprise because, as Reuters recently wrote, Amazon has partnered with a Chinese propaganda arm. So this is another reason why Americans should buy American.”

When asked whether Bezos is still a supporter of the president, Leavitt refused to speak about their relationship.

“Look, I will not speak to the president’s relationships with Jeff Bezos. But I will tell you that this is certainly a hostile and political action by Amazon,” she stressed.

X users had a lot to say about the company’s decision, including many  who are calling for a boycott of Amazon:
