Mexican president rejects POTUS offer to help with cartels

President Donald Trump is calling out Mexico’s leader for rejecting his offer of U.S. military assistance.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum refused Trump’s offer to send American troops to help our southern neighbor fight the cartels. The baffling move to reject assistance did not please Trump, who accused Shienbaum of being “afraid” of the cartels.

Watch:

“She’s so afraid of the cartels she can’t walk … And I think she’s a lovely woman. The president of Mexico is a lovely woman, but she is so afraid of the cartels that she can’t even think straight,” Trump said to reporters.

Sheinbaum reportedly said she would “never accept” a U.S. military presence on Mexican soil.

“No, President Trump, our territory is inalienable, sovereignty is inalienable. We can collaborate. We can work together, but with you in your territory and us in ours. We can share information, but we will never accept the presence of the United States Army on our territory.”

On Sunday, Trump spoke about the dangers presented by cartels.

“They are bad news,” he said. “If Mexico wanted help with the cartels, we would be honored to go in and do it. I told her that I would be honored to go in and do it. The cartels are trying to destroy our country. They’re evil.”

Shortly after his inauguration, Trump designated a number of gangs and cartels as “foreign terrorist organizations,” which allows American law enforcement to take greater action against the groups.
