Trump team rolls out proud FIFA World Cup video, announces choice to lead taskforce

President Donald Trump triumphantly appointed a familiar face to lead the 2026 World Cup task force as the world’s greatest soccer match gears up to take place on American soil.

A video posted to Trump’s X account detailed his quest to bring the FIFA World Cup to the United States, and how he is proud to host the games “for the first time of any president in more than 30 years.”

Watch:

“Welcome to the first meeting of the White House FIFA Taskforce. In my first term, I negotiated the return of the World Cup to America and now, in my second term, I’ll have the honor of hosting the World Cup for the first time of any president in more than thirty years,” Trump can be heard saying. “Starting this June, the United States will host the 2025 Club World Cup. And next summer we’ll host the official 2026 World Cup tournament.”

“I think you’ll see the very best of the United States of America both in athletic competition, but also in hospitality,” Vice President JD Vance added.

To head the taskforce, Trump appointed Andrew Giuliani, the son of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. He has previously served as the Special Assistant to the President and Associate Director of the Office of Public Liaison during the president’s first term. Rudy Giuliani has been a longtime Trump ally who has defended the president against many of the attacks that have been launched at him by the left.

Trump announced the appointment on Truth Social:

“I am proud to announce the appointment of Andrew Giuliani as the Executive Director of the President’s Task Force on the 2026 FIFA World Cup. During my First Term, Andrew served as a Special Assistant to the President and Associate Director of the Office of Public Liaison, playing a key role in creating the system that enabled athletes from around the World to re-enter the United States during the Reopening of America in 2020,” the president wrote.

“Additionally, Carlos Cordeiro will serve as Senior Advisor. Carlos is currently Senior Advisor to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), and was previously the President of the United States Soccer Federation, where he was Chairman of the winning bid for the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” he added.

“I know Andrew and Carlos will work tirelessly to make the 2026 FIFA World Cup an unprecedented success. Congratulations Andrew and Carlos!”
