UK DOGE’s The Waste Files has discovered the Cabinet Office has awarded a £37,500 three-month contract for ‘Domestic & International Media Reporting’ to provide the department with “daily media intelligence reports of global coverage from various international sources in multiple languages” to news supplier News First. Clearly just going online to read the news for free using Google translate is too much effort for civil servants to bear…

This follows the same three-month contract handed to the same supplier three months ago – for £39,000. At this rate the Cabinet Office is splurging around £153,000 annually on a glorified newsreader service. For £37,500, you could:

• Fill 520 potholes.
• Buy 2,083 24-hour Army ration packs.
• Purchase 125,000 surgical face masks for doctors.

The taxpayer may have a view on which should be prioritised. UK DOGE recommends costs are cut here…
