Hmm… This actually isn’t a bad idea.
Hosted by the three nations of the United States, Canada and Mexico, the 2026 World Cup is only a little more than a year away, and this is why you may have noticed FIFA President Gianni Infantino in Washington D.C. recently. He spoke with President Donald Trump while in town.
During the talk between the two, Trump was questioned about the potential of Russia being permitted to participate at the world’s biggest event. Since they invaded Ukraine back in 2022, the nation has been banned from global play.
The president wasn’t aware of that little factoid, however.
“I didn’t know that, is that right?” Trump questioned Infantino. “He is the boss, I am not the boss on that.” (RELATED: Trump Could Make College Sports Great Again If News Of New Commission Is True)
Infantino went on to say that it was right, but said that he is hopeful for a halt to war between Russia and Ukraine, and that he wants to see Russia back in the international picture.
That’s when Trump brought up his idea of possibly making the World Cup an incentive for Russia to stop the violence.
“That’s possible,” said Trump. “Hey, that could be a good incentive, right? We want to get them to stop. We want them to stop. Five thousand young people a week are being killed, it’s not even believable, the Russian soldiers and Ukrainian soldiers mostly.
“Horrible things going on over there. We are going to get that war stopped.”
“Hey, that could be a good incentive, right?”
