Public Sector Productivity Drops 0.3% Despite Labour Pay Rises

Latest figures from the Office for National Statistics brings more bad news for Labour. Total public sector productivity dropped last year by 0.3%, following a 0.2% fall in 2023. That’s 4.6% below pre-pandemic levels…

This is despite Reeves handing the public sector a whopping £10 billion in pay rises, with wage increases of between 4.75% and 6% last July. Private sector productivity on the other hand is 1.6% above pre-covid levels. Darwin Friend of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said:

“Despite record levels of government spending, this drop shows that simply putting more money in is not delivering better outcomes. Without meaningful reform, public services risk becoming more expensive and less effective.”

Meanwhile, unions continue to push Labour for still more bumper pay rises across the public sector, threatening to strike unless the government caves in. An old story…
