MSNBC host Jen Psaki fawned over New York Attorney General Letitia James during a Thursday interview on “The Briefing.”
James, who is reportedly under federal investigation for mortgage fraud allegations, appeared on Psaki’s show, with the host opening the interview by calling her “quite fearless.” At the end of the interview, James pledged to be “relentless,” “unflinching” and “fearless” in her efforts to supposedly stop President Donald Trump from “trampl[ing] on the rights of individuals,” drawing effusive praise from Psaki.

“There’s no question, anyone watching right now can feel your force and your fearlessness,” Psaki said. “And I think so many people are grateful for all the work you’re doing to hold this administration to account through the law.”
“New York attorney general Letitia James, thank you so much for taking the time. I really appreciate it. I hope you’ll come back,” she continued. “We’ll talk more about all of these cases that you’ve been working so hard on and coordinating with the other attorneys general out there in the country.”
The FBI and U.S. attorney for the Northern District of New York have reportedly launched a criminal investigation into James after a referral letter from U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William J. Pulte sent in April indicating she falsified mortgage records, the Times Union reported.
Pulte’s letter accused James of describing a Norfolk, Virginia, property as her “principal residence” on mortgage documents in 2023, despite legal requirements for the attorney general to have her primary residence in New York. White Collar Fraud in April first reported the evidence of the attorney general’s alleged misconduct.
James did not seem to reside in either of the two Virginia homes mentioned in White Collar Fraud’s report when the Daily Caller News Foundation visited them in April. Multiple neighbors told the DCNF they did not recognize James at all when shown a photograph, and one neighbor bluntly said that the residents of the home do not include the “lady from New York.”
Although Psaki asked James about the reported federal investigation, she emphasized she was “not validating” the reports.
“I have to ask you, I mean, there were reports today that the Justice Department has launched a criminal investigation into real estate transactions that you’re involved with,” the host said. “I’m not validating that in any way, but I wanted to just ask you if you’ve received a formal notice of that at this point.”
James repeated her claim that the allegations against her “are baseless” and an act of political retaliation for prosecuting Trump.
James promised to investigate Trump during her 2018 attorney general campaign. She filed suit against the then-former president in September 2022, alleging he overstated the value of real estate holdings to obtain loans and ultimately obtaining a ruling in February 2024 that Trump must pay $354 million, with additional penalties pushing the total to over $450 million.
