India, Pakistan Agree To ‘Full and Immediate’ Ceasefire After US-Brokered Talks, Trump Announces

India and Pakistan have agreed to a “full and immediate ceasefire” following overnight negotiations mediated by the United States, President Donald Trump announced Saturday.

“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” Trump posted on Truth Social early Saturday morning. “Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

The ceasefire comes on the heels of several days of escalating conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. Cross-border missile strikes and drone attacks had targeted regions not touched by direct conflict in decades, sparking international concern and fears of a broader war.

Trump’s surprise announcement stands in contrast to recent statements from Vice President JD Vance, who just two days earlier indicated that the U.S. was not looking to entangle itself in the long-standing regional dispute. (RELATED: India Reportedly Fires Missiles Into Pakistan)

“What we can do is try to encourage these folks to de-escalate a little bit, but we’re not going to get involved in the middle of a war that’s fundamentally none of our business and has nothing to do with America’s ability to control it,” Vance said Thursday during an appearance on Fox News.

Details of the negotiations remain unclear, including who represented each side and what, if any, conditions were tied to the ceasefire agreement. The Kashmir region has been a flashpoint between the two countries for decades, with both sides laying claim to the territory.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar both confirmed the ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India on Saturday.

“Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect,” Dar posted. “Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity!”

“India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action,” Jaishankar posted. “India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so.”
