WILD video captures police confronting 7 and 9-year-old holding loaded handgun

Horrifying video of every good parent’s worst nightmare shows two children holding a loaded firearm being confronted by police.

The shocking incident took place in Bernalillo County, New Mexico in February, where two 7- and 9-year-old children were reportedly playing with a loaded firearm. Police were called to the house and spoke to the children, who can be seen taking cover behind something covered by a tarp. The child on the right can be seen holding the firearm before the one on the left takes the gun from him and hides it behind his back.

Watch:

After about five minutes of trying to disarm the children, police fired a non-lethal projectile at the wall and then moved in to wrestle the handgun away from the children.

Bernalillo County Sheriff John Allen praised the drone program for providing the officers with invaluable assistance in resolving this incident without harm.

“I will tell, if it was not for our drone program, we would have probably went in there a little bit more blind and been into a deadly force confrontation pretty quick, and as you can imagine, it would have not gone well with us killing and shooting a 7- and 9-year-old,” he said.

Shockingly, no charges have been filed in the case despite the police being familiar with the home.

“I don’t know how much I’m able to say, so I’m just gonna leave it very vague, but we know where the children learned the behavior from and that is being addressed as well,” said the family’s case agent Danielle Smith, who revealed the family is being given behavioral support, medical services and trauma therapy in the several months since the incident occurred.

Authorities revealed that the case is still under investigation, and that the adults involved may end up receiving charges.

“We’re dealing with a seven- and nine-year-old, so now we’re looking at the adult side, how they had the firearm, are they gonna be charged with the Bennie Hargrove law, we’re looking into all of that,” said Sheriff Allen.
