Labour Appoints ‘Committed Socialist’ Former Corbyn Policy Director to Chair ‘Oxford Growth Commission’
This morning the government announced the appointment of one Neale Coleman as chairman of the Oxford Growth Commission. The commission was announced by Reeves in her slew of growth-pitched announcements back in January to operate similarly to the Cambridge Delivery Group and advise on infrastructure projects in the area. Coleman, a “committed socialist,” most recently headed up Westminster City Council’s “Future of Westminster Commission” to deliver policy recommendations. The project’s final report was mostly focussed on net zero including a recommendation to “introduce a ‘Net Zero Test’ for every major decision should embed the Climate Emergency Action Plan’s goals [net zero by 2040] into the work of all other departments across the council and strategies.” Other recommendations include retrofitting homes to lower their carbon footprint and funding heat pump distribution. Coleman is being kept busy by Labour – he was also appointed to the National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority’s Council of Expert Advisers last month.
