Should we care what a new pope believes?

At one level, it doesn’t matter at all whether the new pope is a progressive or a conservative. Whatever his theological leanings, the fact remains that the Roman Catholic church stands in grave and serious error against the true gospel of Christ. It does not teach salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Therefore, evangelicals may be tempted to say ‘so what?’ to the election of a new pope.
