‘If You Think We Got Nothing, Think Again’ [WATCH]

In a recent appearance on Fox News with host Sean Hannity, Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) strongly defended President Donald Trump’s newly negotiated trade deal with China, calling it a “big victory” not only for Trump but for the United States.

Kennedy pointed to measurable changes in tariff rates as evidence that Trump’s approach is producing tangible results.

The discussion came after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that 130 countries were watching the deal closely and considering aligning with the United States in future trade frameworks.

“What do you make of that deal, and what do you message? Do you think it sends to the rest of the world? And Scott Bessent said, 130 countries are lined up,” Hannity asked Senator Kennedy during the segment.

Kennedy responded by highlighting the shift in trade balance between the U.S. and China under the agreement.

“Well, I think it’s obvious, unless you’re the reason that your parents drank you see that it was a big victory, not just for President Trump, but for America,” Kennedy said.

“Before the President did what he did, China’s tariffs on the United States were little over 20% on average. Now they’re 10. Our tariffs on China were little over 20 now they’re 30. That’s what a 20 point swing.”

Kennedy also addressed criticism from Democrats who have suggested the U.S. got little in return for the deal.

“Now I’ve listened all day to some of my Democratic colleagues say that, well, we, we didn’t get anything for it. You know, if you believe that, I’m not saying you’re the dumbest person in the world, but you better hope the dumbest person in the world doesn’t die. It was, it was a clear victory,” Kennedy said.

The senator also praised Trump for being the first U.S. president to confront China over its longstanding trade practices.

He criticized the Chinese Communist Party—not the people of China—for exploiting international trade systems.

“I think Trump understands how to deal with China,” Kennedy said.

“Look, the Chinese, not the people of China, I’m speaking about the Chinese Communist Party. They’re thieves. They steal with both hands. They will steal your socks without taking off your shoes. That’s how they’ve gotten rich. We let them into the World Trade Organization on December 11 of 2001. They started cheating December 12.”

Kennedy credited Trump with being the first leader to push back decisively.

“Trump was the first president. He did this in the first term to ever stand up to China and say, stop the stealing. And now he’s doubled down, and it’s working,” he said.

Although Kennedy acknowledged that there is still work to be done in addressing other forms of Chinese economic manipulation, such as quotas, subsidies, and intellectual property theft, he said the new trade deal marks major progress.

“China cheats in other ways besides tariffs, with quotas and subsidies and stealing intellectual property, but this is a hell of a good start,” Kennedy concluded.
