Ed Martin Tells Tucker Carlson How ‘Schumer Smear’ Set Off Unhinged Woman Who Spit On Him In Public

Outgoing interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Ed Martin told Daily Caller News Foundation co-founder Tucker Carlson on Wednesday that the “Schumer smear” of him in the media provoked an enraged woman to spit on him during a live TV interview.

During the middle of a live Newsmax interview on Friday, a woman, apparently walking a dog, was seen shouting at Martin and spitting on him. While discussing the incident on “The Tucker Carlson Show,” Martin told Carlson his plans for President Donald Trump’s second administration, had he been confirmed as the U.S. attorney for Washington D.C.

“The Schumer smear. [Democrat Senate Minority Leader Chuck] Schumer was so mad that I got into office, and I said ‘Hold on a second. You’re not allowed to say the whirlwind is coming for Gorsuch and Kavanaugh.’ Then a month later, Kavanaugh’s got a guy with zip ties and a gun [near Kavanaugh’s house],” Martin told Carlson.

“So I said ‘Hold on, the statute of limitations is coming [in] five years.’ I’m going to investigate this, and I’m going to Chuck Schumer [to ask] ‘What did you mean? You cannot mean that you’re allowed to stand and threaten justices.’ So I put that out. He refused to answer. He said it’s offensive, all that stuff. Then he went on a jihad inside the Senate,” Martin added. “He got opposition research, and he went member to member and said ‘This guy, Martin, you can’t vote for him.’ It’s the Schumer smear. Then they called me names in the Washington Post.”

Doubts about Martin’s confirmation arose after Republican North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis suggested he wouldn’t vote for Martin. Despite Trump urging Republican senators to confirm him, Martin’s nomination was pulled due to lack of support.  (RELATED: Ed Martin Baffled By Reasons Thom Tillis Gave For Opposing His Nomination)

“President Trump said ‘Fight for the future of the country.’ That fight can’t be trapped in the Article III gentility of a hundred years ago. It’s the fight we got right now. That’s what we’re doing,” Martin said. “So I think they hated me. This woman came up to me, screeching. She can’t know me. She didn’t know me. I never met her. [She was] screeching, screeching, screeching, swearing and then spitting.”

In April, a group of former Jan. 6 prosecutors filed a letter with the Washington D.C. Bar’s Office of Disciplinary Counsel to call for a probe into Martin, alleging he violated “the D.C. Rules of Professional Conduct” and should be “subject to appropriate sanction.”

Carlson went on to ask if Martin knew about the woman who spit on him. Martin said officials have identified her.

“So you think the genesis of the opposition was your request to Chuck Schumer that he answer questions about encouraging violence against the Supreme Court justice?” Carlson asked.

“I think that the role I played is epitomized by that. Right? Public and willing to fight for the right things. Schumer certainly took it to heart and made a big deal out of it,” Martin said. “The Washington Post had me on the front page of A1 or B1 every day for three or four weeks. Wild, a U.S. attorney. [Democrat Sen] Dick Durbin [of Illinois] sent me 561 questions. District court judges don’t get that many.”

“No U.S. attorneys [had] ever gotten question after question accusing me of this and that and the other thing. So they obviously knew they didn’t like something about what I was doing, and the public picks up on it,” Martin added.

While sitting as the interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia in March, Martin asked that Schumer answer questions to a federal grand jury over comments he made about Supreme Court justices in 2020, according to the New York Times. While the Department of Justice had not looked into the issue, Martin signaled his intent for the investigation after writing Schumer a letter demanding his “information and clarification” on comments he made during a rally on March 4, 2020, the outlet reported.
