Steven Spielberg Was Brought In to Mask Joe Biden’s Decline

New reporting reveals that Joe Biden’s closest allies enlisted Hollywood filmmaker Steven Spielberg to help mask the president’s cognitive decline during his 2024 reelection campaign.

According to excerpts from an upcoming book by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson, Spielberg was recruited to apply “Hollywood magic” to Biden’s public appearances, including debate prep and the State of the Union address.

The revelations are detailed in the soon-to-be-released book, Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again, and were previewed this week in The New Yorker.

The authors describe efforts by Democratic operatives to conceal Biden’s deteriorating condition throughout the campaign cycle, including help from longtime Democratic donor Jeffrey Katzenberg and other top party figures.

“As 2024 approached, [Katzenberg] saw Biden’s communication struggles and thought he could help fix them,” the article states.

“He worked on providing better lighting for Biden and trying to find a microphone that would amplify Biden when he would break into a whisper for emphasis. Katzenberg also recruited his friend Steven Spielberg, who helped coach Biden for the State of the Union and his debates, even assisting with routine campaign videos. There was, however, only so much that Hollywood magic could do.”

The revelations have sparked renewed scrutiny of the 2024 campaign, during which concerns about Biden’s age and health were repeatedly dismissed by his campaign team and Democratic leaders.

Former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau and his wife, Emily Black, reportedly witnessed Biden’s decline firsthand during two events in 2024—one at the White House and another at a Los Angeles campaign stop.

Favreau recalled Biden being “incoherent” during an April 2024 White House meeting and described him as having “aged 50 years in sixteen months.”

His wife referred to Biden’s June appearance at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles as a “complete disaster.”

“I wanted to make everyone stay in this theatre and say, ‘No one is going anywhere until we have a plan, because this can’t be it,’” Black said, according to the report.

Behind the scenes, senior Democrats reportedly shared similar concerns. In June 2024, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) reportedly told associates that he, Barack Obama, and Nancy Pelosi had a “Plan B” in place if Biden’s debate performance went poorly.

Tapper and Thompson also report that Schumer noticed Biden “sometimes rambled,” “forgot names,” and talked with a “slower and oddly quieter” voice.

Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, allegedly suggested the president use a wheelchair due to “significant spinal arthritis,” but advisers rejected the recommendation as politically untenable.

Instead, campaign staffers attributed Biden’s stiff gait to a past foot injury, contradicting O’Connor’s 2021 medical report stating the injury had fully healed.

Many within the White House were reportedly kept in the dark.

Tapper said, “We found out all of these things after the election… now we have anecdotes and facts about what was really going on behind the scenes.”

After Biden dropped out of the race in July 2024—following widespread backlash to his debate performance—he endorsed Kamala Harris to replace him atop the Democratic ticket.

Harris ultimately lost to President Donald Trump in the November election.

David Plouffe, a senior strategist on the Harris campaign, expressed frustration with Biden’s decision to run in the first place.

“We got so screwed by Biden, as a party,” he said.

Plouffe described Harris’s 107-day campaign as “a fu***** nightmare,” adding, “It’s all Biden… Totally f***** us.”
