Joe Biden Diagnosed With Aggressive Prostate Cancer, Metastasis to the Bone [WATCH]

Joe Biden has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, his office confirmed in a public statement released Sunday.

According to the announcement, Biden’s medical team identified the condition following a recent evaluation for ongoing urinary issues.

“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms,” the statement read.

Further diagnostic evaluation led to a cancer diagnosis on Friday, revealing what doctors described as a more severe form of the disease.

“On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone,” the statement said.

The Gleason score system is commonly used by medical professionals to assess the severity and potential aggressiveness of prostate cancer.

A score of 9 on the scale, paired with a Grade Group 5 classification, indicates a highly aggressive cancer with a significant potential to spread. In this case, the cancer has already metastasized to the bone, according to Biden’s medical team.

Despite the seriousness of the diagnosis, Biden’s office emphasized that the cancer has been identified as hormone-sensitive.

This classification means the disease is likely to respond to hormone-based therapies, which are often used in prostate cancer cases where metastasis is present.

“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” the statement explained.

“The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.”

No additional details regarding Biden’s current condition, location of treatment, or projected recovery plan were provided as of Sunday evening.

It is also not immediately clear whether Biden will undergo surgery, radiation, hormone therapy, or a combination of treatments.

The announcement comes after weeks of public speculation about the former president’s health, though no prior statements indicated that cancer was under consideration.

The confirmation marks the first public acknowledgment of a cancer diagnosis for Biden since he left office.

Biden, 82, previously underwent medical evaluations throughout his presidency, with summaries of those exams released by the White House physician.

However, none of those reports indicated the presence of prostate cancer or any significant abnormalities in that region.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers among men in the United States, with the American Cancer Society estimating that about 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed in their lifetime.

When caught early, the disease is typically treatable, though cases involving bone metastasis often require more intensive and long-term management strategies.

As Biden and his medical team consider a course of action, further updates are expected to be released through his office.

The statement concluded without offering a timeline for public updates or expected next steps.
