As a fan of the Florida Panthers and unofficial ambassador to the City of Toronto, it’s a shame somebody had to lose. But considering it was a Game 7, you just knew it was going to be the Maple Leafs.
But it’s not just that they lost, they got absolutely obliterated Sunday by the Florida Panthers in a 6-1 shellacking. It’s the second straight home loss for Toronto where they’ve lost by a score of 6-1, and it officially ends the Maple Leafs‘ chances of winning the 2025 Stanley Cup.
When it comes to the NHL playoffs, Toronto has a dreadful past under the helm of core players Auston Matthews, John Tavares, William Nylander and Mitch Marner. In winner-take-all games, the Maple Leafs are a dismal 0-6 since 2018, and in Game 7 losses in particular, they’ve suffered many blowout defeats. Well, when it comes to the Toronto fan base, they’ve clearly had enough of the nonsense. During Game 7 action Sunday night, several jerseys were thrown onto the ice, and not just that, but we also reportedly had beer tossed at the Maple Leafs‘ bench.
You can see Toronto fans’ misery here, here, here and here.

I don’t think there was a single Maple Leafs fan who knew how agonizing the next seven years would be following this:
I really thought they were going to form something incredibly special after that 2016-17 season. So much hope and potential that never panned out.#LeafsForever pic.twitter.com/URkZ1gciQQ

I think MLSE needs to have a serious conversation about Shanahan vetoing the Marner trade and the subsequent fallout. The buck stops with him and running it back over multiple seasons has proven to be the wrong choice.

Can’t avoid saying this about the Toronto Maple Leafs: When they need it most, they have it least.

I always forget if the Cowboys are the football Maple Leafs or if the Leafs are the hockey Cowboys.

I love Toronto because of my connections to the city, but Lord have mercy, the vibes are depressing as hell right now.
