Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is running for office again, so it’s time we revisit why he became a villain.
During the 2020 Covid pandemic, the entire country screeched to a halt. Some states relinquished their control early on, while others held on to the power well past the point of sanity. Those of us with a modicum of common sense were fighting for our rights, and those of the most vulnerable, the moment the government broke its “15 days to slow the spread” promise.
These protests began with refusing to wear a mask and staying indoors, and later escalated into protesting in the streets against forced vaccine compliance. During this time, thousands watched as their loved ones were locked away from healthy family members under the guise that it was safer for them. “Don’t kill Grandma with your kiss!”
NY Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo: “We’ve been more aggressive than any state in nursing home precautions. We have been smart.”

Well, while families were forced to celebrate birthdays and holidays from the parking lot or on the other side of the windows, state governments, like New York under Cuomo’s reign, were placing Covid-positive patients from the hospital into local nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other adult care homes. Cuomo sent a March 25, 2020, mandate forcing elderly care facilities to accept Covid-positive patients. (Sign up for Mary Rooke’s weekly newsletter here!)
This is obviously either the policy of an idiot or someone who didn’t care about whether seniors lived or died. It doesn’t take an expert to summarize that respiratory disease affects the elderly more than it affects just about any other part of the population. Still, it became the official mandate of the state of New York.
Andrew Cuomo LIED to Congress about his deadly nursing home scandal.
That’s why Chairman Comer (@RepJamesComer) is re-upping his referral to the DOJ (@TheJusticeDept / @AGPamBondi) for criminal charges.

During an official investigation into nursing home neglect during the pandemic, New York Attorney General Letitia James uncovered that under Cuomo, the state’s Department of Health was caught underreporting the number of deaths in nursing homes and other elderly care facilities. When James’ report came out in Jan. 2021, it found that the death toll was much higher than the around 8,500 deaths that were initially reported. Cuomo’s Health Department was undercounting senior deaths by as much as 50%.
The exact number of seniors who died in nursing homes is unclear. But a 2024 House Select Subcommittee report cites over 15,000 deaths, emphasizing the impact of the directive mandating nursing homes to admit Covid-positive patients.

Cuomo never apologized to the families who lost loved ones due to his mandate. He admitted he wasn’t transparent about the number of deaths and accepted blame for not coming forward with more information sooner, but never offered an apology. He did manage to say: “Who cares [if they] died in the hospital, died in a nursing home? They died.” (ROOKE: No Mercy, No Quarter: It’s Time To Crush The Branch Covidians)
Now Cuomo, who had to resign in disgrace, not because of the nursing home death scandal (which should have been the reason) but because of sexual harassment allegations, is running to become the next Mayor of New York City. The Democrat party primary for the mayoral race is happening in a matter of weeks, and the sad thing is that he might win.
How quickly people have forgotten his policies’ devastating impact on NYC families.
