Labour Hands Inflation-Busting Pay Rises to Public Sector Workers
A slew of pay awards today as Labour accepts public sector pay recommendations made by review bodies. They are:
- Teachers: 4%
- Senior civil servants: 3.25%. The PCS has just voted to ballot for strike action…
- Junior doctors: 4% plus £750.
- Consultant doctors: 4%
- Nurses, rest of NHS staff: 4%
- Armed Forces: 4.5%
- Prison officers: 4%
Pay increases have so far had little effect on stalling public sector productivity. In a sign of what’s to come from the unions the BMA says the doctors’ pay increase are “woefully inadequate” and “derisory.” Summer of fun on the way…
