Labour Wales First Minister: Starmer Migration Policy Will ‘Damage the Country’
Eluned Morgan, Labour’s first minister of Wales, popped up on Nick Robinson’s Political Thinking podcast this morning ahead of the ‘Council of Nations and Regions’ meeting. She had a list of complaints about Starmer…
Morgan kicked things off by saying that Labour in Westminster is “more to the right” than Welsh Labour, declaring the party is a “messy family” before calling for the “majority of pensioners” to get the Winter Fuel Payment, urging Reeves to go big on a U-turn. She then attacked Starmer’s plans for immigration. Asked whether Starmer’s language or policy on immigration would “damage Wales’” Morgan replied:
“I think both, actually. I don’t think I’d use that language. I’m very keen on making sure that people feel comfortable in a cohesive community and that they feel welcome.”
Morgan at the same time said of her anti-Starmer briefings: “Let’s all relax a bit, let’s all get on with each other.” Right…
Reform’s two new mayors will also be in attendance today. Could get spicy…
