Another leftist lawsuit was in the works as California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and blue state peers allied following a Senate rebuke of their auto industry manipulating mandates.
With a blind eye turned to their own decline, officials in the once-Golden State have endeavored to leverage industries across the country with increasingly radical regulations. Now, as Congress sent legislation to President Donald Trump’s desk to nix California’s effort to phase out gas-powered vehicles, Newsom and his fellow green agenda-peddling executives resorted to pushing an Affordable Clean Cars Coalition.
Launched Friday alongside the governors of Colorado, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island and Washington, a joint statement from the group argued, “The federal government and Congress are putting polluters over people and creating needless chaos for consumers and the market, but our commitment to safeguarding Americans’ fundamental right to clean air is resolute.”
“As we consider next steps for our clean vehicle programs, our states will engage stakeholders and industry to provide the regulatory certainty needed while redoubling our efforts to build a cleaner and healthier future,” they went on after the U.S. Senate had followed the House of Representatives in nullifying California’s measure seeking to phase out the sale of new gas-powered vehicles by 2035.
The effort out of the leftist stronghold was considered a radical attempt to manipulate the auto industry across the rest of the country as car manufacturers would have to choose between complying with stricter emission standards than the federal government or lose access to the market with the greatest population in the country.
Still, Newsom argued it was the federal government that was in the wrong as he stated, “So today, we announced our 24th lawsuit against the Trump Administration. This lawsuit comes from the United States Senate today unlawfully acting to remove California’s leadership as it relates to reducing the amount of pollution coming out of tailpipes.”
More smog. More asthma. More pollution in our kids’ lungs.

The governor was also given space to vent by Fox News, which published an opinion piece that read in part, “… Senate Republicans are illegally using the Congressional Review Act to undermine California’s work to make and keep the air breathable. Eliminating California’s clean-air waivers is an attack on decades of work that began in earnest when then-Governor Reagan established the state’s Air Resources Board in 1967.”
The Affordable Clean Cars Coalition was launched under the umbrella of the U.S. Climate Alliance, a purportedly “bipartisan climate action coalition” comprised of 23 Democratic Party governors and Republican Gov. Phil Scott of Vermont.
Meanwhile, Trump Derangement Syndrome, that had been foisted upon Tesla CEO Elon Musk as a result of his support for the president and his role as an advisor through the Department of Government Efficiency, found extremists obstructing their own agenda as zero-emission vehicle sales had dropped to start 2025, seemingly in protest of Musk’s role in the administration.
