House Rep Says Democrats Turned Memorial Day Into ‘Bizarre And Grotesque Display Of Affinity For Illegal Gangbanger’

Republican Texas Rep. Brandon Gill blasted Democrats on Fox Business Tuesday over the Memorial Day weekend and accused them of engaging in a “bizarre and grotesque” public display of sympathy for a deported MS-13 gang member.

Maryland Democratic Rep. Glenn Ivey traveled to El Salvador over Memorial Day in an unsuccessful bid to meet with deported and alleged MS-13 member Kilmar Abrego Garcia, becoming the latest Democrat to publicly advocate for his return to the U.S. During an appearance on “The Bottom Line,” Gill blasted Ivey’s action as tone-deaf and offensive, especially on a weekend meant to honor fallen American service members.

“You know this is such a bizarre and grotesque affinity that Democrats have for illegal alien gangbangers who never should have been in our country in the first place,” Gill said. “This is a guy who has been suspected of human trafficking. He’s a known member of MS-13 that the president finally got the heck out of our country.”

Gill then asked about the purpose of these visits.

“You have Democrats who are bending over backwards to go to foreign countries to visit these aliens and do what? To have lunch with them, to talk about the weather, to talk about sports. What do you want to do?” Gill asked.

Gill contrasted the Democratic delegation’s actions with Republican priorities. (RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Democrats Enjoyed Luxury Resort’s Comforts While Protesting Deportation Of Alleged MS-13 Gangbanger)

“I think it’s disgusting that these people are going after these illegal aliens in the way that they are, and, let me tell you, this shows such a difference between what the Republicans and what the Democrats are trying to do,” Gill said. “We’re looking out for Americans. Democrats are looking out for illegals.”

Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Abrego Garcia in Maryland in March and deported him to El Salvador despite a 2019 order barring his removal, with the Trump administration defending the move by citing his alleged MS-13 ties and history of domestic violence. Department of Justice documents later revealed that a reliable source identified Abrego Garcia as a gang member during his 2019 arrest. He was found wearing clothing linked to Latin gang culture.

In April, Maryland Democratic Sen. Chris Van Hollen became the first from his party to visit El Salvador and push for a meeting with Abrego Garcia, urging his return to the United States. He was later joined by four House Democrats—Reps. Robert Garcia (CA), Yassamin Ansari (AZ), Maxwell Frost (FL), and Maxine Dexter (OR)—who also traveled to El Salvador to advocate on Abrego Garcia’s behalf.
