James Comey’s ‘8647’ Post Forced FBI Agents Off Terror and Child Trafficking Cases [WATCH]

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino sharply criticized former FBI Director James Comey on Thursday over a social media post that reportedly triggered a surge in threats against President Donald Trump.

Speaking on Fox & Friends, Bongino stated that Comey’s now-deleted Instagram post led to thousands of threats and diverted critical FBI resources away from national security priorities.

Comey’s post, which showed seashells arranged to display the number “8647,” prompted concern across federal agencies.

According to FBI Director Kash Patel, the post led to a wave of copycat incidents involving the same number, resulting in numerous threats targeting President Trump.

The number “86” is widely recognized slang for elimination, and “47” is a reference to Trump as the 47th President of the United States.

“This man is a disgrace to the badge, the FBI and the country. What he’s doing right now, one, going out and taking mean shots at Kash [by saying he] doesn’t belong. Kash was the chief of staff, Kash is a patriot.”

Bongino further criticized Comey’s handling of the situation.

“We have wasted countless man hours now running out tips to our tip line about people putting ‘8647’ because of Jim Comey, because he cannot control himself and his emotions. He is a child. He is a big child,” he added.

The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI have opened formal investigations into Comey’s post to determine whether it constitutes a call for violence against the President.

According to FBI Director Patel, Comey’s actions have had direct consequences on the bureau’s operations.

“Do you know how many agents I’ve had to take offline from chasing down child sex predators, fentanyl traffickers, terrorists?” Patel said in an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier.

“Everywhere across this country, people are popping up on social media and think that a threat to the life of the President of the United States is a joke, and they can do it because he did it.”

Patel stated that the bureau has been forced to pause or reassign investigative efforts related to high-priority criminal cases because of the flood of copycat threats linked to the post.

Comey, in a May 19 interview, dismissed the federal response as a distraction orchestrated by the Trump administration.

He also claimed to have no regrets about the post, stating that the image was captured after his wife noticed the shell arrangement during a walk on the beach.

Comey said his wife suggested taking a photo, mentioning that “86” is commonly used in the restaurant industry as a term to remove an item from the menu.

Despite that explanation, federal officials have taken the matter seriously, particularly in light of two recent assassination attempts targeting President Trump.

On July 13, 2024, during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire, grazing Trump’s ear before being neutralized.

A second attempt followed in September, when Ryan Routh attempted to infiltrate Trump’s golf course residence in Florida with a plan to assassinate the President.

Routh was taken into custody before carrying out the attack.

Federal authorities continue to investigate both attempts on Trump’s life, as well as the surge in threats linked to Comey’s Instagram post. No further public statements have been made by Comey since deleting the image.
