Exc: Labour Now Promises Zombie “Office for Investment” Will Be Expanded Last Month
Guido pointed out last month that Labour’s ‘revamped’ Office for Investment has done next-to-nothing since the government announced it would be “beefed up” to boost inward investment. Now Labour has been forced to explain why the zombie office has kept silent…
Labour was asked in a written question when Poppy Gustafsson’s “expanded office” will be operational now that eight months have passed. Industry minister Sarah Jones pledged yesterday in response: “The expanded OfI will be operational by the end of May.” Yesterday was the 2nd of June. Labour is promising its beef-up will occur in the past…
The Office’s about page still says “details on the expanded OfI will be set out in due course” and it has put out zero releases since Guido last checked. Jones insists it “has remained operational throughout this period, continuing to lead efforts to secure high-value investment into the UK.” Oh dear…
Does Jones mean next May? Inward investment clearly low on the list of priorities…
