Former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is drawing sharp criticism from both political allies and opponents following the announcement of her upcoming book, Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines, in which she claims to have distanced herself from the Democratic Party after her tenure under Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
The promotional material for the book, published by Hachette Book Group, promises revelations about the “three weeks that led to Biden abandoning his bid for a second term” and a so-called “betrayal by the Democratic Party.”

Fox News Senior White House Correspondent Peter Doocy responded to the news during an appearance on “Fox & Friends” Thursday, suggesting that Jean-Pierre’s attempts to distance herself from the administration were disingenuous.
“You know, it’s like I had a dream, and I opened up the first page of her book about the ‘broken White House,’ and the first sentence says, ‘Peter Doocy told me, and I didn’t listen to him,’” Doocy joked.
The co-hosts agreed that Jean-Pierre should consider dedicating the book to him.
Doocy criticized Jean-Pierre for routinely dismissing valid inquiries as misinformation during her time as press secretary.
“She would say that legitimate questions were misinformation,” he said.
“And I told her once: ‘You can’t just call something that you don’t like misinformation.’”
He went on to question her credibility.
“I don’t know how she is going to square being the public face of saying things that we now know were not true about the president and about policies,” he added.
“I don’t know how she’s now gonna come out and say, ‘You know what, just because I swore on camera that things were okay, actually here’s what was really going on.’”

Doocy was known for repeatedly pressing Jean-Pierre on issues related to President Biden’s mental and physical fitness, particularly as public concern grew throughout his presidency.
He compiled a series of video clips highlighting moments when Jean-Pierre deflected or dismissed concerns from the press.
Following the book’s announcement, responses from Democratic insiders and former White House officials were swift and pointed.
“What her publisher means to tell readers is that she is INCOMPETENT, not independent. Just incompetent. But we don’t need to read about it— we watched it,” one Democratic source told RedState.
“Put this ‘bombshell’ at the top of the Trump book-burn pile. Right next to Jake Tapper’s own toothless tome,” the source added.
Other reactions were equally harsh.
A top Democrat reportedly said, “I can’t look away,” while another ex-official said former colleagues had been “cackling in chats all day” and speculated that Jean-Pierre’s sudden pivot was financially motivated.
According to Politico, the book’s release reignited longstanding frustrations among Biden staffers, with multiple former officials granted anonymity to speak candidly.
One claimed that Jean-Pierre had joked about being an independent even while serving in the administration.
Another said she had coordinated with a New York publicist and copied them on official emails until other staff members intervened.
“Everyone thinks this is a grift,” one former official told Politico.
Jean-Pierre served as White House Press Secretary from May 2022 until January 2025.
Throughout her tenure, she often faced scrutiny over her handling of questions surrounding Biden’s cognitive health, border policy, inflation, and foreign affairs.
Her time behind the podium was marked by frequent criticism over evasiveness and lack of transparency.
