Annual Libertarian Festival Features ‘Clothing-Optional’ Zone

The Porcupine Freedom Festival, or “PorcFest,” is an annual libertarian festival taking place in New Hampshire in June, featuring a “clothing-optional” zone for attendees who want to fully experience “liberty living,” according to the festival’s website.

PorcFest’s website includes a map that details five zones, with one dubbed the “Bodily Freedom Friendly Zone” (BFFZ) where attendees are allowed to participate in “clothing-optional activities.”

Some of the events include “naked espresso,” “clothing-optional yoga,” a “24-hour clothes-sobriety” challenge, a “Nude Olympics,” a gay and lesbian mixer and a “crypto religious service,” according to the festival’s schedule. Nudity is restricted to the BFFZ and is not permitted in “shared spaces, walkways (outside of BF), Roger’s facilities, or within view of non-BF campsites,” according to the festival’s description of the zone. PorcFest’s “Cultural Code of Conduct” states in a section titled “Parental Responsibility” that the festival encourages “parental autonomy,” pointing to “free range children.”

“Free-range children should be able to make decisions becoming of a porcupine and care for all basic needs including food and medical conditions,” the code of conduct reads.

The festival is hosted by the Free State Project, a libertarian organization in New Hampshire with a “mission to prove that more liberty leads to more prosperity for everyone” and boasts that over 20,000 individuals have pledged to move to the state in support, according to its website.

All attendees are also required to sign a waiver that says any attendees who bring minors are aware that they “have made a choice that the minors may be exposed to the expressive activities and dress that take place at the Event,” which may include “partial or full nudity.”

“I understand that children under 18 years of age can attend the event only accompanied by a parent or guardian, and that if I bring a minor to the event I agree to the contractual terms contained in these Terms and Conditions on behalf of the minor,” another section of the waiver reads.

“I take full and sole responsibility for ensuring that any minors in attendance with me are not exposed to any activity or thing which are inappropriate for a minor to be exposed to,” it continues.

Eric Brakey, executive director for the Free State Project and producer for the 2025 Porcupine Freedom Festival, told the Daily Caller the festival “allows attendees to create their own hubs for personalized experiences.”

“Since establishing policies last year for physical distance between the family zone and body freedom zone, there have been no conflicts between active attendees regarding the body freedom zone,” Brakey’s statement added.

Brakey is a former Maine state senator.

The Caller asked for comment on whether minors are allowed in the BFZ.

“All body freedom zone events are advertised for ages 18 and over,” he said in a statement.
