Trump Slams Newsom And Bass Over LA Immigration Riots

President Donald Trump escalated his criticism of California officials Sunday morning, slamming California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass as “incompetent” amid violent riots that erupted across Los Angeles in response to federal immigration raids.

“We have an incompetent Governor (Newscum) and Mayor (Bass) who were, as usual (just look at how they handled the fires, and now their VERY SLOW PERMITTING disaster. Federal permitting is complete!), unable to handle the task,” Trump wrote.

Masked rioters vandalized property, set fires, and threw rocks and fireworks at law enforcement officers in neighborhoods like Paramount. Some spray-painted anti-ICE slogans including “F–K ICE” and “KILL ICE” on public property.

“MASKS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to be worn at protests,” Trump said. “What do these people have to hide, and why?”

Trump announced a deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops to the area after two days of violent clashes, despite public objections from Newsom. Federal agents conducting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations arrested more than 100 undocumented immigrants, including individuals with gang and drug trafficking affiliations, sparking a wave of unrest. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem issued a warning to protesters: any assaults on federal agents would result in arrests.

U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli told The New York Times that at least a dozen agitators had been detained and that federal reinforcements would be in place within 24 hours.

The Department of Defense, led by Secretary Pete Hegseth, mobilized additional National Guard forces. Hegseth announced that nearby active-duty Marines at Camp Pendleton were also placed on high alert in case further violence erupted.

Newsom fired back on social media, accusing the federal government of exacerbating the crisis. “The federal government is sowing chaos so they can have an excuse to escalate,” he posted on X.
