Three Private Schools Close in One Week After Labour VAT Raid

A 70-year old Catholic school in London has been the latest victim of Labour’s punitive tax raid on private schools. Bishop Challoner School’s Chair of Trustees has written to parents to say that the “imposition of VAT” was the final nail in the coffin, and that the school is closing this summer. Last weekend, two independent schools, Park Hill School in Kingston and Falcons School in Putney, also announced they were closing due to Labour imposing VAT on schools fees. At least 12 other schools have directly blamed the raid for shutting down this year…

Ministers have admitted the Government expects 100 private schools to shut up shop as a result of its VAT raid, with analysis by the Independent Schools Council saying this will lead to 40,000 pupils being displaced and 11,000 jobs being lost. The tax has already triggered the largest exodus in private school pupils in over a decade.
