Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-N.J.) appeared on MSNBC Friday to respond to federal assault charges stemming from a May 19 incident outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in New Jersey.
During the interview, McIver was asked directly whether Border Czar Tom Homan lied when he stated she had “shoved” a law enforcement officer during the altercation.
The charges were filed after a chaotic scene at the Delaney Hall Detention Facility in Newark, where McIver, along with fellow Democrat Reps. Robert Menendez Jr. (D-N.J.) and Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-N.J.), attempted to gain access to the facility for a scheduled tour.

Trump’s Sovereign Wealth Fund: What Could It Mean For Your Money?
The situation escalated when Newark Mayor Ras Baraka joined the group and allegedly tried to push through a secured area, resulting in his detention and a confrontation between lawmakers and law enforcement.

While appearing on The Beat With Ari Melber, the MSNBC host played footage of a prior interview with Tom Homan, who now serves as Border Czar under the Trump administration.

In the clip, Homan accused McIver of physically shoving an officer.
When pressed on whether Homan’s statement was false, McIver declined to answer directly.
“First of all, I disagree with everything that he’s saying,” McIver responded.
“That’s why there was a long pause when you asked him would they win the case, because I don’t think he even understands what happened that day.”
She continued, “It’s been a lot of information that’s come out of his mouth that wasn’t factual, from the point of, like, we didn’t get a tour to we did get a tour. Just all of the different things that he was saying. So I disagree with everything that he’s saying. The bottom line is we’re gonna go to court. All of the facts are gonna come out. They’re gonna be on my side when it gets to that point.”
The Department of Homeland Security and federal prosecutors allege that McIver interfered with officers who were managing entry and security outside the ICE facility.
According to U.S. Attorney Alina Habba, McIver is accused of having “assaulted, impeded, and interfered with law enforcement.”
Officials from DHS said the lawmakers, accompanied by Mayor Baraka, attempted to force their way past security as a detainee transport vehicle was entering the facility.
The incident led to a lockdown of the entry gate and brief detainment of multiple individuals, including the mayor.
McIver has denied the charges, calling the allegations baseless and politically motivated.
“There’s no video that shows me body slamming myself into an officer,” McIver told CNN shortly after the incident.

She has maintained her position that the visit was scheduled and that any confrontation occurred due to a miscommunication between local and federal officials.
The case is currently pending in federal court, with prosecutors indicating they will pursue all available evidence, including surveillance footage and officer statements.
