NC Dem tries to walk back pic of decapitated Trump

A North Carolina state representative attempted to backtrack after being slammed for seeming to call for the beheading of President Donald Trump.

Rep. Julie von Haefen issued a statement asserting she condemns political violence “in all forms,” as she claimed the “crowd photos” from a protest contained one that had “inappropriate” imagery.

But social media users were not buying what the Democrat was selling, with many calling for her resignation after posting the photo from the ‘No Kings’ protest in Raleigh that showed a mock decapitated Trump head and another of his senior policy advisor, Stephen Miller.

Representing the 36th District in the North Carolina House of Representatives since 2019, von Haefen came under heavy backlash for posting the ill-timed image, which also showed a banner reading, “In These Difficult Times, Some Cuts May Be Necessary.” The leftist protests across the country came as a manhunt was underway in Minnesota for a gunman who killed Speaker Emeritus Melissa Hortman and her husband.

“Like so many, I was horrified by the violence in Minnesota,” the Democrat wrote in her follow-up post. “There is no place for that kind of extremism in our democracy, no matter the target, no matter the party.”

Von Haefen reportedly deleted the original post some time later and locked her X account.

Speaker Destin Hall of the North Carolina House of Representatives said he was “examining next steps with our legislative attorneys to ensure this behavior does not continue.”

“Her disgraceful behavior fails to meet the standards expected from House members and sets a dangerous precedent in an already volatile political climate,” he wrote in a post on X.

Von Haefen’s mea culpa was seen by many as too little, too late.
