Elon Musk has activated Starlink internet services for the Iranian public following internet restrictions imposed by the country’s ruling regime amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

The move is intended to provide Iranians with access to uncensored communication platforms despite a government blackout.

Starlink’s coverage is particularly effective in remote regions or areas impacted by disasters or political upheaval, including authoritarian-imposed blackouts.

The Islamic Republic’s Ministry of Communications recently announced that it had implemented “temporary restrictions” across the country’s internet network. A ministry statement cited “the special conditions of the country” as justification for the nationwide disruption.

The Jerusalem Post reported that Musk responded by activating Starlink over Iran to ensure connectivity for citizens who would otherwise be cut off from communication and outside information.

This is not the first time Starlink has been used for similar purposes. During the “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests in Iran in 2022, Starlink played a key role in helping Iranians bypass censorship and maintain access to the global internet.

The system allowed citizens to share footage, coordinate protests, and communicate despite widespread blackouts imposed by the regime.

Reports indicate that more than 100,000 Iranians are currently accessing the internet using Starlink connections.

Unlike traditional internet services, Starlink connects directly to a constellation of low-earth orbit satellites, which bypasses domestic infrastructure and limits government interference.

Starlink is also in the process of testing “direct-to-cell” technology, which would enable smartphones to connect directly to satellites without the need for dishes or terminals.

If successfully implemented, this technology would expand Starlink’s reach and reduce visibility risks for users attempting to conceal their activity from government surveillance.

Musk’s decision to support Iranian citizens with internet access comes at a critical moment in the Middle East.

As Israeli strikes continue against Iran-linked targets, the Islamic regime has further tightened domestic information control, prompting concern from international human rights advocates.

There has been no official comment from the Iranian government on Musk’s latest activation of Starlink over the country.
