Trump Blasts Macron’s ‘Publicity Seeking’ Iran-Israel Ceasefire Claim [WATCH]

President Donald Trump rejected claims made by French President Emmanuel Macron that he left the G7 Summit in Canada to negotiate a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, calling Macron “publicity seeking” and accusing him of spreading misinformation.

The president departed the summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, Monday evening, citing urgent matters in Washington.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the early exit, stating, “President Trump will return to Washington tonight so he can attend to many important matters.”

In a post on X, Leavitt added that the president had a “great day at the G7,” signing a major trade agreement with United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

However, Macron told reporters the same day that efforts were underway to initiate a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, implying that Trump’s departure was related.

“There is indeed an offer to meet and exchange,” Macron said.

“If the United States can achieve a cease-fire, that’s a very good thing.”

Trump forcefully denied Macron’s version of events in a post on Truth Social, writing, “Publicity seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to go back to D.C. to work on a ‘ceasefire’ between Israel and Iran. Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that.”

The White House later confirmed that Trump would convene the National Security Council in the Situation Room on Tuesday to address the rapidly escalating conflict in the Middle East.

Trump’s return to Washington came as the Israeli Defense Forces expanded their military operations in Iran.

On Monday, Israel issued an evacuation warning to more than 330,000 residents in central Tehran, targeting areas housing state media, police headquarters, and several hospitals, including one affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Trump backed the warning with his own message on Truth Social: “Iran should have signed the ‘deal’ I told them to sign. What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!”

According to the Israeli military, more than 120 surface-to-surface missile launchers were destroyed in strikes on western and central Iran.

Two Iranian F-14 fighter jets and multiple Quds Force command centers in Tehran were also targeted.

The strikes have killed at least 224 individuals in Iran since Friday. In retaliation, Iran has launched more than 370 missiles and deployed hundreds of drones toward Israeli targets.

So far, 24 people in Israel have died, with over 500 reported injured.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told Fox News on Monday night that the U.S. is “postured defensively” in the region and prepared for further developments.

“We’re vigilant, prepared, and committed to defending our people and our assets,” Hegseth said, adding that diplomatic solutions remain possible.

Before leaving Canada, Trump participated in a joint G7 statement affirming that Iran “can never have a nuclear weapon” and called for a de-escalation of regional hostilities.

However, he skipped his scheduled Tuesday meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

A planned press conference was also canceled.

Asked whether he would travel to the region for talks, Trump said, “I think we’re doing pretty well. We’re talking. We have a thing called the telephone.”

Trump visited the Middle East in May, with state visits to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.

On Monday morning, he posted again to Truth Social: “Iran and Israel should make a deal, and will make a deal, just like I got India and Pakistan to make… using TRADE with the United States to bring reason, cohesion, and sanity.”

The president added during his meeting with Prime Minister Starmer, “I think a deal will be signed, or something will happen, but a deal will be signed. And I think Iran is foolish not to sign.”

The International Atomic Energy Agency has warned that Iran possesses sufficient enriched uranium to develop multiple nuclear weapons if it chooses.

Israel has stated that its military operations are aimed at halting Iran’s nuclear ambitions and degrading its ballistic missile capabilities.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the campaign has set Iran’s nuclear program back “a very, very long time.”

Trump is expected to meet with senior U.S. military and intelligence officials Tuesday to review further options regarding the conflict.
