British singer Boy George found himself on the receiving end of a sharp rebuttal from author J.K. Rowling after attempting to publicly criticize her stance on transgender issues in a post on X, as reported by The New York Post.
The exchange began Saturday when Rowling, 59, engaged in a discussion about transgender rights and asked a user, “Which rights have been taken away from trans people?” George, 64, replied, “The right to be left alone by a rich bored bully!”

Trump’s Sovereign Wealth Fund: What Could It Mean For Your Money?
The comment sparked an immediate and pointed response from Rowling the following day.
“There are many differences between us, George, but some are particularly relevant to this debate,” Rowling wrote. She highlighted that George is a man and that his fame and wealth began in his early 20s, while she rose to prominence later in life.
“I’ve never been given 15 months for handcuffing a man to a wall and beating him with a chain,” Rowling added, referencing George’s 2009 conviction for assault and false imprisonment.

Continuing her response, Rowling wrote, “You yourself have been convicted of violent assault. The overwhelming number of people who commit crimes of violence are male, just like you.”
She then tied the argument to her position on biological sex and women’s safety: “That’s why I don’t want to see men identifying into women’s prison cells or any of the spaces mentioned above. Not all men are violent or predatory, but enough are to make safeguarding necessary.”
She concluded by criticizing George’s political conformity: “For a man who was once all about non-conformity, George, you couldn’t have become more predictably or more tediously conformist.”
There are many differences between us, George, but some are particularly relevant to this debate.
1. You’re a man and I’m a woman.
2. You’ve been wealthy and famous since your early 20s. I didn’t become well known until I was well over 30.
3. I’ve never been given 15 months… https://t.co/bBbG9NPNKm

The feud escalated further when another user unearthed a 2020 post by George that read, “SO many pronouns, so little time.”
Rowling responded by mocking the tendency of celebrities to adopt popular views: “You could dig up most of their deepest convictions in under a minute, with a teaspoon.”
George continued to exchange barbs, attacking Rowling’s appearance and character. “The demolition of her filler face is more laughable! The dragon has been slayed!” he posted. In another tweet, he accused Rowling of deriving entertainment “from other people’s pain.”
Rowling has been a vocal critic of gender ideology for several years. Her position has drawn backlash from celebrities, including actors from the Harry Potter franchise.

In April, several cast members signed a pro-trans open letter following a UK Supreme Court ruling affirming that the legal definition of “woman” refers to biological sex.
Rowling celebrated that ruling with a cigar in hand, posting, “I love it when a plan comes together. #SupremeCourt #WomensRights.”
Despite the controversies, Warner Bros. Discovery and HBO have stood by Rowling. HBO CEO Casey Bloys confirmed in April that Rowling will remain an executive producer on the network’s upcoming Harry Potter series.
“The decision to be in business with J.K. Rowling is not new for us,” Bloys said. “And if you want to debate her, you can go on Twitter.”
