An Oklahoma woman has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of child abuse and neglect following a year-long investigation into disturbing allegations involving her two young grandchildren, as reported by The New York Post.
Davena Marx, 53, of Warr Acres, is accused of drugging her 8-year-old granddaughter and 6-year-old grandson, locking them in a large dog cage, and subjecting them to repeated physical abuse, according to police and local media reports.

Marx had full custody of the children following the death of their father in a 2022 road rage shooting.

Authorities allege that Marx forced the children to take anti-psychotic medication, including Seroquel, a drug intended to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in individuals over the age of 13.
Investigators confirmed that traces of the drug were found in both children during medical examinations.
One of the children reportedly told investigators, “Meemaw sells drugs and uses them.”
“She makes us stay in the dog cage when she wants to go outside by herself.”

These claims emerged during interviews conducted at a Safe Clinic after the children were removed from the home.
According to OKCFOX, the Department of Human Services initiated the investigation after receiving a tip and conducting a welfare check at the residence. The granddaughter sent a message to a social worker stating, “She is mean to us, she is very abusive.”
Medical staff who examined the children reported physical signs of abuse. The granddaughter had bruises on her back consistent with being struck by a belt.

Both children also described being forced to perform exercises until their bodies gave out, among other forms of physical and emotional mistreatment.
Police said Marx’s residence contained drug paraphernalia, marijuana, a bottle of Alprazolam, and a prescription bottle of Seroquel. A large dog cage was also located inside the apartment. Officers executed a search warrant shortly after the children’s removal.
Warr Acres Assistant Police Chief Jason Allen said Marx was arrested in May after extensive interviews with the victims.
“The day we went out with them, there was enough to immediately remove the children, which is often not the case.”
A neighbor told police he had previously witnessed the children searching through trash bins for food, adding to the growing list of concerns surrounding their welfare.
The case remains under investigation as Marx faces criminal prosecution. The children are now in protective custody.
