Multiple Teenage Girls Among 145 Stabbed with Syringes During Music Festival [WATCH]

French authorities are investigating a wave of syringe attacks that occurred during the annual Fêtes de la Musique festival on Saturday, resulting in 145 reported victims across the country, as reported by The New York Post.

According to officials, many of the victims were teenage girls. At least 12 suspects have been arrested in connection with the string of incidents.

The attacks took place during World Music Day celebrations, a nationally recognized summer solstice event that draws massive crowds to cities across France.

In Metz, where the first known assault was reported at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Rue du Palais, police tracked down one suspect using local surveillance footage.

Metz Mayor François Grosdidie confirmed that the municipal police arrested the individual on Rue Serpenoise and handed him over to the National Police and the Justice Department.

“I hope that the investigation, particularly through the examination of his cellphone, will lead to the identification of other attackers,” Grosdidie said in a statement.

First responders set up a triage area in Place d’Armes and deployed seven emergency vehicles to treat victims. According to the Interior Ministry, several individuals were hospitalized, and at least three reported feeling ill after being jabbed.

Toxicological testing was conducted on some victims to determine the nature of the substances possibly injected during the attacks.

French officials had prepared for record attendance at this year’s festival, which is held annually on June 21.

The Fêtes de la Musique showcases performances by professional and amateur musicians alike, with concerts staged in parks, on street corners, and at other public venues across the nation.

Metz alone drew an estimated 50,000 attendees. Paris also experienced a surge in festivalgoers, with authorities describing the turnout as “unprecedented.”

Despite social media warnings circulating on platforms like Snapchat about the strange needle attacks, millions of people still took part in the festivities across France.

According to Le Monde, Paris police are currently investigating 13 separate incidents in the capital. Nationwide, 145 victims have been identified, and authorities believe the 12 suspects in custody may be connected to attacks on approximately 50 of them.

Police have not confirmed whether the syringes were filled with substances such as GHB or rohypnol, drugs commonly used in sexual assault cases to incapacitate victims.

The Interior Ministry did not provide details about the contents of the syringes, and toxicology results are still pending.

As investigations continue, French law enforcement agencies are working to determine whether the attacks were coordinated or carried out by individuals acting independently.

The Justice Department has not yet released further details about the identities of the suspects or any potential motives.
