Video as armed gunman was shot dead by security guard after opening fire at Sunday church service

A near tragedy in Michigan emphasized the need for “safety and security” plans after “heroic actions” neutralized an attacker with sights set on a church.

Years of open borders allowing countless threats to public safety to enter the country have left communities justifiably on edge as Iran vowed retaliation for strikes against its nuclear facilities. Sunday, a seemingly unrelated attack at CrossPointe Community Church in Wayne, Michigan, was averted with only one reported injury, thanks in part to those “trained in responding to emergency situations.”

Video from within Sunday’s service during Vacation Bible School showed as panicked parishioners responded to gunfire, seeking cover and fleeing toward an exit. According to the Wayne Police Department, “Upon arrival, officers determined that a security guard for the church shot and killed the suspect. One victim was shot in the leg. Please avoid the area. Officers are still actively investigating.”

During a press conference, Wayne Police Chief Ryan Strong described the deceased assailant as a “31-year-old white male from Romulus. His motivations are unknown, but at this point, it appears he was suffering from a mental health crisis.”

The attacker, identified as Brian Browning by Channel 2 Now, was said to have been wearing tactical gear and was armed with a “long gun and handgun,” and was stopped when a man said to be a deacon from the church drove his truck into the suspect before a security guard could return fire and neutralize the threat.

“Several staff members from the church approached the gunman. A parishioner struck the gunman with his vehicle as the gunman shot the vehicle repeatedly,” said Strong, adding, “We are grateful for the heroic actions of the church’s staff members, who undoubtedly saved many lives and prevented a large scale mass shooting.

The sheriff noted “parishioners and staff members were trained in responding to emergency situations, which also saved lives,” and said of the suspect, “Our interactions with him in the past were quite limited. Like nothing of note.”

Meanwhile, Channel 2 had reported on the Facebook profile of Browning that included a post in May that read “Sometimes God will ‘subtly’ show you the signs,” before posting an image of the church’s social media.

Shortly after word of the attack had gone viral, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino had assured, “Our leadership and support teams are on the ground, at the scene, in Wayne, Michigan providing assistance and investigative support.”

Elsewhere, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd in Florida used the thwarted attack as a sober reminder of the need to have plans in place to protect the faithful from would-be terrorists.

“This morning’s active shooter at a church in Wayne, Michigan reminds us that all of our houses of worship must have a safety and security plan to immediately respond to an active shooter,” wrote Judd on X, adding, “An active shooter can happen anywhere, and churches, synagogues, and mosques need to take steps to prepare for such a scenario.”

“We urge congregants: If you see something, or hear something suspicious, then say something. Talk to house of worship leadership and security and notify your local law enforcement agency immediately,” the sheriff insisted.

Sunday’s attack came as alarms had been raised over the potential for sleeper cells in the United States launching attacks on Americans to retaliate for the strike on the Islamist regime’s nuclear facilities.

This included border czar Tom Homan telling Fox News host Maria Bartiromo, “There was 1,272 nationals Iran released in the country,” under then-President Joe Biden.

“More than two million known gotaways, over two million people cross that border. We don’t know who they are, where they came from, because they got away because Border Patrol is so overwhelmed with the humanitarian crisis that Biden created,” added Homan as the Department of Homeland Security issued a memo warning of a “heightened threat environment in the United States.”

While fatalities were averted in Michigan, the same could not be said for the faithful at Mar Elias Church in Damascus, Syria where eyewitness accounts described how one man had opened fire on parishioners while another detonated a vest-worn bomb killing at least 25 people and injuring dozens more attending Mass at the Greek Orthodox church. The terrorists were said to be members of ISIS as Christians continue to face persecution around the world.
