‘You’re Going To Stew In Your Own Juices’: Victor Davis Hanson Breaks Down How Trump’s Strategy Made Iran Collapse

Victor Davis Hanson appeared on Newsmax Monday to discuss the impact of President Donald Trump’s strategic approach that he said dismantled Tehran’s power and left the regime in a state of humiliation and collapse.

Trump ordered strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities Saturday night and warned of further action if Iran targets any U.S. forces in the region. During an appearance on “Rob Schmitt Tonight,” Hanson said that Iran’s underwhelming retaliation marks a shift from the once-feared “terrorist colossus” of the Middle East.

“I think the right simile is that Trump now with the peace deal has sort of put them in a pot, turned up the heat, put the lid on. And said ‘You know what. You’re going to stew in your own juice because you’ve got to go back now and tell the Iranian people that you blew a trillion dollars on Hezbollah, Hamas, the Assad dynasty, the Houthis and defenses and mountain nuclear subterranean projects, and it’s all gone,’” Hanson said.

Hanson said Trump’s peace deal has effectively trapped Iran in its own failure.

“You’re going to have to explain, and we’ve got a peace now. And you’re reduced to nothingness, and you’re going to stew in your own juices from now on. And if you try anything, you know what’s going to happen to you because we can do this anytime we want because you have no terrorist tentacles anymore, and you have no defenses,” Hanson said.

The peace deal, according to Hanson, has left the regime with limited options.

“They crawled into the pot and put the lid on top of themselves because they had no choice. Because the choice was they have no nuclear card to deal with anymore in this game of poker. The only card they have is their existence, and, you know, they were dealing really for the life of the regime. And the life of the regime is defined by not being taken away by Israel and the United States,” Hanson added. “But it doesn’t mean that in the next few months it’s going to be easy to explain to the American people why they impoverished them and enriched a bunch of terrorists that were anemic and humiliated, as well as the regime itself.”

On June 12, Israel struck Iran’s nuclear program and several high-ranking officials, prompting a counterattack from Tehran the following day. After considering further action, Trump said Saturday that the U.S. military had successfully hit three Iranian nuclear sites. In retaliation for the U.S. airstrikes, Iran launched an assault on Al Udeid U.S. Air Base in Qatar on Monday, reportedly firing a missile into Iraq. Before this attack, the U.S. had pledged to respond with additional strikes if Iran targeted American forces in the region.

Trump announced Monday that Israel and Iran agreed to a ceasefire. The announcement came just two days after the U.S. targeted Iran’s nuclear sites, with the ceasefire scheduled to take effect in a few hours.
