Caitlin Clark Sidelined Due to Injury Amid WNBA Turmoil [WATCH]

Caitlin Clark, widely considered the most impactful player in women’s basketball history, will not be playing tonight due to a groin injury, the Indiana Fever announced late Wednesday, as reported by Joe Hoft.

The news comes as the star guard continues to deal with ongoing physical setbacks following repeated hard contact in her first two WNBA seasons.

Clark, who dominated NCAA Division I women’s basketball at the University of Iowa, holds nearly every major scoring and assist record in college history.

Her resume includes 3,951 career points, over 1,000 assists, and numerous firsts across both women’s and men’s college basketball. She remains the only Division I player to score 3,500 points, deliver 1,000 assists, and record 850 rebounds in a career.

In her senior season, Clark also set the NCAA single-season scoring record in women’s basketball with 1,234 points and recorded 201 three-pointers—another all-time Division I record.

Since entering the WNBA, Clark has continued to draw record-breaking attention to the league, along with delivering high-level production. She quickly became the league’s most-watched and highest-impact player in terms of scoring and assists combined.

But her introduction to the professional game has not come without challenges.

Clark has repeatedly taken physical hits from opponents. Earlier this season, she missed five games due to injury.

More recently, after returning in June, Clark endured additional on-court collisions, resulting in a noticeable slump in her three-point shooting—just 1 for 23 in her last three games, marking the worst stretch of her career from beyond the arc.

Fans and analysts alike have raised concerns over the physical treatment Clark has received from opposing players, as well as the officiating surrounding those incidents.

Many have criticized referees for allowing excessive contact without consistent calls, contributing to growing frustration among supporters.

Clark’s absence from the court has also affected league-wide viewership. During her previous five-game absence, WNBA television ratings dropped by nearly 50%, highlighting her influence on the sport’s national appeal.

Clark’s return timeline remains uncertain, and no official update has been given beyond the groin injury designation. The Indiana Fever and the league continue to monitor her status, as both her health and presence remain key factors in WNBA interest and revenue.
