White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller appeared on Fox News Friday to applaud the new U.S. Supreme Court ruling on nationwide injunctions and called it a “monumental” victory for American democracy.
The Supreme Court’s 6-3 ruling Friday ended the ability of lower courts to issue nationwide injunctions, determining they exceeded their authority in blocking President Donald Trump’s birthright citizenship restrictions. During an appearance on “Special Report with Bret Baier,” Miller said the ruling restores the balance of power between the branches of government.
“It’s monumental, Bret. This 6-3 ruling restores American democracy. So, President Trump, over the last five months, had more nationwide injunctions issued against him than were issued in the 100 years of the 20th century,” Miller said. “Most of these nationwide injunctions have come from a small handful of very hard left district court judges in just four or five cities, like Los Angeles, Boston, San Francisco, Chicago.”
Miller pointed to this decision as a reaffirmation of the executive branch’s authority, specifically the president’s role in directing federal agencies.

“No one in America consented to be ruled by a district court judge in Chicago or Manhattan or Los Angeles or San Francisco. They elected one American president to run the executive branch. Today the Supreme Court has said President Trump is the one in charge of the executive branch,” Miller said. “The Department of Defense, the Department of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security, that is how our democracy works.”
Miller said unelected judges in liberal cities should not have the authority to override the will of the American people. (RELATED: Gregg Jarrett Shares Thought-Provoking Point Justice Gorsuch Made In SCOTUS Planned Parenthood Decision)
“Every four years we go to the polls, and we elect a president. We do not elect a marxist judge in a far-left city to rule over us. And that’s what the Supreme Court said today,” Miller added.
The Trump administration appealed lower court orders blocking the birthright citizenship ban and urged the Supreme Court to limit district court judges’ power to issue nationwide injunctions. In January, Trump signed an executive order ending guaranteed citizenship for children of illegal aliens and temporary visa holders, prompting 40 such injunctions since he took office.
