A rumor has emerged that the Trump administration is considering allowing Iran to pursue a civilian nuclear energy program.
It’s one of several proposals that have been floated in recent days, according to an exclusive report by CNN.
The idea involves “helping Iran access as much as $30 billion [in funding] to build a civilian-energy-producing nuclear program, easing sanctions, and freeing up billions of dollars in restricted Iranian funds.”
Why all this? To bring the Iranians back to the negotiating table regarding their pursuit of nuclear weapons, with the ultimate goal being to convince Iran to stop enriching uranium.
President Donald Trump has, for his part, already denied the legitimacy of this rumor.
“Who in the Fake News Media is the SleazeBag saying that ‘President Trump wants to give Iran $30 Billion to build non-military Nuclear facilities,’” he wrote on Truth Social Friday. “Never heard of this ridiculous idea. It’s just another HOAX put out by the Fake News in order to demean. These people are SICK!!!”
The proposal would nevertheless involve raising $20 to $30 million from the United States’ Arab allies to fund “a new Iranian non-enrichment nuclear program that would be used for civilian energy purposes.”
“The US is willing to lead these talks,” a Trump administration official told CNN. “And someone is going to need to pay for the nuclear program to be built, but we will not make that commitment.”
“Other incentives include potentially removing some sanctions on Iran and allowing Tehran to access the $6 billion currently sitting in foreign bank accounts that it is restricted from freely using,” CNN notes.
As noted earlier, this is one of several ideas that have purportedly been proposed.
Another idea calls for the United States’ Arab allies to pay to rebuild the now-wrecked Fordow nuclear facility with a non-enrichment nuclear program.
“There are a lot of ideas being thrown around by different people and a lot of them are trying to be creative,” one of CNN’s insider sources claimed.
“I think it is entirely uncertain what will happen here,” another source added.
U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, for his part, told reporters on Wednesday that the administration is seeking some sort of “comprehensive peace agreement” with Iran that’ll prevent it from ever obtaining a nuclear weapon.
“Now the issue and the conversation with Iran is going to be, how do we rebuild a better civil nuclear program for you that is non-enrichable?” he said.
All of this comes ahead of a possible planned meeting next week between U.S. officials and Iranian officials.
“We’re going to talk to them next week, with Iran,” the president said Wednesday, adding that U.S. officials and Iranian officials will “meet.”
“I don’t care if I have an agreement or not. The only thing we’d be asking for is what we were asking for before about, ‘we want no nuclear,’” he continued.

However, the Iranians have denied that the two have a meeting scheduled for next week.
“Iran currently has no plan to meet with the United States, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Thursday in an interview on state TV,” according to Reuters.
“The Iranian foreign minister said Tehran was assessing whether talks with the U.S. were in its interest, following five previous rounds of negotiations that were cut short by Israel and the U.S. attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities,” the reporting continued.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has also cast doubt on a meeting.
“We don’t have anything scheduled as of now,” she told reporters on Thursday. “We are in touch, and if there is a meeting, we will let you know, as we always do.”
All this comes days after the Trump administration used bunker bombs to obliterate Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility and knock the country’s nuclear capabilities back at least a decade, if not longer.
Tulsi Gabbard, US Director of National Intelligence:
New intelligence confirms what president has said many times – Iran’s nuclear facilities have been destroyed.
For Iran to completely rebuild Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan to restore its nuclear program – will take years. pic.twitter.com/ZN7KJ3ztA3
