Washington Post journalist accused of possessing child pornography

Law enforcement arrested a Washington Post journalist accused of possessing child pornography at his home in the District this week.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia said in a release that FBI agents searched the home of Thomas Pham LeGro, 48, Thursday and seized multiple electronic devices.

The attorney’s office alleged that a folder on a work laptop found in Mr. LeGro’s home contained 11 videos of child sexual abuse material. Fragments of a hard drive were also found in a hallway outside the room where agents found the laptop, federal prosecutors said.

Mr. LeGro was taken into custody following the execution of the search warrant.

Investigators also linked Mr. LeGro to an account on the online digital currency platform E-Gold used for payment by multiple child pornography websites, according to a redacted affidavit.

A profile on the Post’s website says that Mr. LeGro worked as the paper’s deputy director of video, and said that he was part of a team of journalists at the paper that won a 2018 Pulitzer Prize for their work covering U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore.

The Washington Post said in a statement that it “understands the severity of these allegations, and the employee has been placed on leave.”
