Pistons’ Malik Beasley Caught Up In Federal Investigation Over Gambling Allegations: REPORT

Federal officials have launched an investigation into Detroit Pistons star Malik Beasley over gambling allegations connected to NBA games and a sportsbook’s prop bets, according to a report Sunday from ESPN.

Per the four-letter network’s report, the accusations stem from the 2023-24 campaign when Beasley was a member of the Milwaukee Bucks. That season, Beasley averaged 11.3 points-per-game, playing 79 contests in the campaign. 77 of those games he would start in, which is a career-high for the 28-year-old. At least one high-profile sportsbook in the United States picked up on an unusual level of betting on Beasley’s props starting around Jan. 2024, according to the report from ESPN.

The media outlet had a gambling industry source point to a Jan. 31, 2024 game between the Bucks and Portland Trail Blazers. The prop in question was Beasley’s rebounding number, which was set at an over/under of 2.5. The under, in particular, saw its odds bump from +120 to -250 at sportsbooks due to an incredible amount of activity on it. Beasley ended up tallying six rebounds in that contest, with all of the under bets losing in the process.

“An investigation is not a charge,” said Steve Haney, the attorney of Beasley, to ESPN. “Malik is afforded the same right of the presumption of innocence as anyone else under the U.S. Constitution. As of now he has not been charged with anything.”
