82-Year-Old Firebomb Victim Dies, Boulder Suspect Now Facing 1st Degree Murder Charges

An 82-year-old woman injured in a firebomb attack during a pro-Israel march in Boulder, Colorado, has died from her injuries, leading prosecutors to upgrade charges against the suspect to include first-degree murder, as reported by the New York Post.

Karen Diamond was among 29 individuals injured during a demonstration held in support of Israeli hostages still held by Hamas.

The attack occurred in Boulder several weeks ago. According to the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office, Diamond passed away due to the severity of her burns.

“This horrific attack has now claimed the life of an innocent person who was beloved by her family and friends,” District Attorney Michael Dougherty said in a statement released Monday.

The suspect, Mohamed Soliman, had already been in custody facing charges related to the firebombing.

Following Diamond’s death, prosecutors have now filed two counts of first-degree murder, along with other charges. Details on the second murder count have not yet been made public.

Authorities previously described the incident as an antisemitic attack. Witnesses said the group was peacefully marching when an incendiary device was thrown into the crowd, resulting in multiple injuries, including severe burns to Diamond.

Diamond was transported to a local hospital following the incident and remained under medical care until her death.

The Boulder County District Attorney’s Office is continuing its investigation in coordination with local law enforcement and federal authorities. Officials have not commented on whether additional hate crime charges will be added.

Soliman’s motive has not been disclosed publicly, but prosecutors have repeatedly stated they believe the attack was targeted and motivated by the political nature of the demonstration.

The incident drew national attention at the time of the attack, and it has now resurfaced as the case shifts from attempted murder to homicide. Soliman remains in custody awaiting further court proceedings. His legal representation has not commented on the upgraded charges.

Karen Diamond’s death has prompted renewed calls for accountability and safety at political gatherings, particularly those related to ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

Funeral arrangements for Diamond have not yet been announced by her family.
