‘Cut Off From The Mothership’: Hugh Hewitt Explains Why Hamas Should Accept 60-Day Deal For Hostages

Seasoned political analyst Hugh Hewitt said on Fox News Tuesday that Hamas should accept the 60-day deal for hostages.

President Donald Trump announced that Israel has agreed to a 60-day ceasefire deal in Gaza, urging Hamas to accept before conditions worsen, ahead of talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. During an appearance on “Special Report with Bret Baier,” Hewitt said that while not all 20 hostages may be freed, the 60-day deal presents an opportunity to release most of them.

“Maybe not all 20 of the living hostages, but most in a 60-day deal would give them the opportunity. Hamas has cut off from the mothership,” Hewitt said. “It doesn’t have any way to resupply. It doesn’t have any money. They should take the deal and get out. And the president is right. I hope they will give him the attention he has asked for on this matter.”

Hewitt expressed optimism about the possibility of a large-scale hostage release.

“There’s a lot of optimism that the hostages can come out in a large group,” Hewitt told host Bret Baier.

“My Representatives had a long and productive meeting with the Israelis today on Gaza. Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60 Day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the War,” Trump wrote.

Netanyahu is set to meet with Trump at the White House on Monday. Trump, who has been advocating for an end to the ongoing conflict, said Friday that a ceasefire agreement is imminent, following Israel’s violation of a previous ceasefire with Hamas in March when they launched deadly airstrikes.

Hamas is facing significant setbacks as Israel’s weakening of Iran and support for rival factions in the Gaza Strip threatens the group’s ability to sustain its fight. With the loss of much of its leadership, a deteriorating tunnel network and the potential loss of support from Tehran due to Israeli and U.S. strikes on Iran, Hamas is struggling both militarily and financially.

Supplies are dwindling, and the group is reportedly finding it difficult to pay its fighters. Israel is working toward a long-term goal of gaining full control over Gaza and preventing Hamas from ever regaining authority there.
