Trump Blasts NYC Mayoral Candidate Mamdani as ‘Communist’ Who ‘Wants to Destroy New York,’ Vows to Stop Him [WATCH]

President Donald Trump took direct aim at New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani during a campaign stop in Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday, warning that the self-described Democratic socialist represents a “communist at the highest level” and poses a threat to the city’s future, as reported by The New York Post.

“In New York, they’re trying to elect a communist,” Trump said, referring to Mamdani, 33, a New York State Assemblyman representing Queens and a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

“The guy who wants to defund the police, take over the stores and run the stores, and have the people hand out goods.”

The president warned that Mamdani’s vision for the city reflects the hallmarks of communist regimes, stating that “anarchy and dictatorships prevail” when those systems “fall apart.”

“This guy is a communist at the highest level, and he wants to destroy New York.”

Mamdani, a Queens native and son of a filmmaker and an academic, has risen in far-left political circles for his aggressive push to dismantle traditional policing, redirect city funding, and restructure economic control.

His positions have drawn widespread support from socialist organizations but have been met with increasing backlash from conservatives and centrists concerned about public safety, business viability, and rising crime. Trump declared:

“I love New York and we’re not gonna let him do that. Generations of Americans before us did not shed their blood, only so that we could surrender our country to Marxist lunatics on the eve of our 250th year.”

The president used the moment to reaffirm his broader stance against socialism and Marxism in American politics, pledging to defend the country’s institutions and way of life.

“As president of the United States, I’m proclaiming here and now that America is never going to be communist in any way, shape or form — and that includes New York City,” Trump said.

Mamdani has not responded publicly to Trump’s remarks. The NYC mayoral race, though still months away, is already drawing national attention due to the sharp contrast between candidates and the growing presence of socialist ideologies in major urban races.
