Subway Vigilantes Step In to Save Woman and Stop Attacker in Brooklyn, Suspect Gets Released Next Day [WATCH]

A group of bystanders intervened to stop an alleged assault on a 20-year-old woman at a Brooklyn subway station on Sunday morning, with the dramatic incident captured in a now-viral video, as reported by The New York Post.

Despite the violent nature of the attack, the suspect was released from custody the following day under New York’s supervised release system.

According to police and prosecutors, the incident occurred around 9 a.m. on the Manhattan-bound J train platform at the Norwood Avenue station in Cypress Hills.

Authorities say Fredrick Marshall, 42, of Queens, followed the woman onto the platform and began arguing with her. As the confrontation escalated, Marshall allegedly grabbed her and shoved her to the ground.

Video footage recorded by a bystander and posted on TikTok by user @nicabori5 shows Marshall, dressed in white, bear-hugging the woman as she tries to walk away. The woman is seen screaming for help, prompting several men nearby to intervene.

One bystander shouted, “Let her go!” as others moved in.

Marshall allegedly ignored the commands and restrained the woman again. That’s when a group of vigilantes stepped in, forcibly pulling the woman from his grasp and subduing Marshall on the platform.

In the video, at least one man appears to strike Marshall while shouting, “I’m gonna f**k you up!”

The woman was able to escape and was seen crying while calling her mother. She received medical treatment on site for shoulder pain and minor injuries to her stomach and arms, police said.

Marshall was arrested at the scene. Officers say he was found in possession of a knife and a blackjack. He was charged with third-degree assault, third-degree attempted assault, second-degree harassment, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Despite the serious nature of the charges and the weapons found on him, Marshall was released under supervised release during his arraignment the following day.

The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office said the charges are not eligible for bail under current New York State laws. Police also confirmed that Marshall had no prior arrests.

The video of the incident quickly spread across social media, drawing widespread attention to the actions of the bystanders and the subsequent release of the suspect.

The NYPD has not indicated whether additional charges will be pursued or whether any of the individuals involved in subduing the suspect could face repercussions.

The case adds to the growing number of incidents in New York City where alleged violent offenders are released under bail reform laws, prompting ongoing debate about public safety and legal accountability.
